#Pym - Twitter Book Club Discussion
Discussion questions from chapter 11 - 15:
1. Jaynes is suspicious that Arthur Pym is not the man from Poe's novel. Do you believe it is #Pym? Why?
2. Pym clearly believed that Jaynes was Caucasian. Should he have used that to his advantage?
3. If you had been in Garth's position as owner the Little Debbies, what would you have done?
4. Why does Captain Booker appear to be relieved and justified in his new position as Hunka's servant?
5. Who's sanity seems the most affected by this journey and why?

#Pym - Twitter Book Club Discussion
Discussion questions from preface - chapter 5:
1. Professor Jaynes fails to make tenure and loses his job because he refused to teach African American Literature. His defense was that his work was "about finding the answer to why we have failed to become a postracial society." Jaynes believes that the cure to identifying "how the pathology of Whiteness was constructed" is the key to dismantling it. Do you agree or disagree with him? (15)
2. Tsalal is an "undiscovered African Diasporan homeland" that is mentioned in both Peters and Poe's books. Jaynes is excited to find it because it is "uncorrupted by Whiteness." How might the Tsalalians be different from the rest of the African Diaspora who has be in contact with Whiteness?
3. How is it possible that Mrs. Mathis truly believes she doesn't have any African blood? Is she just a character or are there real people like her?
4. Mrs. Mathis was destroyed when she got the results back about her ancestry. Is there an amount of ancestry percentage that would change the way you felt about yourself? Why?
5. Given the time period (1837), why wasn't Dirk Peters harassed more when he was searching for Poe?

Poetry Break
This link has nothing to do with poetry or writing, unless you count the typo I made. Don't be shy, go visit ---> Oyin Handmade <--- and you'll see what I mean.

Cupcake Collection
In honor of my recent finding of Midnite Confection's Cupcakery, I dedicate this poem I wrote some time ago.
*******
Cupcake Collection
I’m going to turn this poem into a cupcake
because it’s easy to understand sweet, sugary goodness
with or without a degree.
I’m going to turn this poem into a cupcake
so you’ll enjoy it and eat another and another
until you’ve eaten the whole collection
I’m going to turn this poem into a cupcake
because statistics show that more people eat cupcakes
then read poetry.

750 Words
Are you familiar with 750 Words? It's a website that encourages a daily writing habit. You might be asking yourself how is that different from a traditional blog? Mosty because you write just for you and no one will ever see it. If I were to blog some of the things I write on 750 Words I would be embarrassed (in some cases). Also, if I knew it were going to be seen by others, I probably wouldn't write so freely.
Anyhoo, I registered to be a member in August and am enjoying it so far. I like having a record of how many words I've written, how fast I wrote them, if I got distracted, which words I wrote the most, and how I felt when I wrote it. Plus you earn points and cute badges for accomplishing goals, like writing three days in a row.
My goal for September is to beat the 45 points I made in August. Wish me luck.

“Trying to Fit” (a Joi poem)
Another one of my Joi poems is being featured at Specter Magazine. Awesome sauce. What's even better is that included with it is a photo by Mick Davidson which fits so perfectly. Go over and check it out.
Oh and while you're there, listen to the podcast of "A Friendly Game."
